In everyday life we are constantly bombarded with the response of our senses: sight, sound, smell, and feeling. Our brains have to decide what is important for us that need to be stored, and what is not to be discarded.
If we do not focus our attention spans are scattered in many different things and this will be reflected in our brains. Activity in the brain will also be degraded in the whole brain and no lasting impressions to be made.
When we concentrate on a task or a specific object, the brain will automatically minimize or shut down activities unrelated to the task and activate brain regions that
associated with the object of our attention.
The ability to change tracks / new sensory experiences are the basis for all learning; that does not mean only academic learning but whatever we do in our lives. From learning to walk, ride a bike, or learn more complex math - once we learn we will never forget.
The most successful people in all walks of life, scientists, athletes, actors, teachers, employers or others who succeed always have one thing in common, they know what they want and they have a focused mind to accomplish their goals. By focusing on the goal, all the energy and effort is concentrated on the tasks that move to be closer to the goal.
The ability to focus will help us know what we need to do but more importantly we will also know what not to do. Activate the reticular system in the brain will alert our attention to important things around us that will help us move toward what we want. (Reticular system is a system that is in your brain stem, which enables you to direct yourself to something you want, provided you want the specifics)
How to improve concentration:
A. Have specific goals you want to accomplish. If the financial goals, formulate exactly how much you want to have, get up as soon as you build your financial your ability to make money. Set time limits when you want to achieve it.
2. Have a reason why you must achieve it. This is the most important thing to you include, the stronger the reason more likely it will get there.
3. Confidence that you will achieve it and stay focused on that belief. You must be absolutely sure that you will achieve it. Make it a must.
4. Creating a Plan - How to get to your destination? Make all the list of tasks that you must take to move closer to your goal. Also list things that do not need to do, things that would distract from achieving your goals. Things like watching too much TV, or hanging out with friends. More focused in dealing with the plan.
5. Action - Break the plan into monthly, weekly and daily action plan. Set aside a specific time and take action every day at least this time will bring you closer to your goal.
6. Review - Review of this at least every month, much longer than that means you will stray too far from your destination. Make the necessary adjustments in the plan or action, but still the goal.
7. Enjoy the process - Setting goals and working towards it would be more satisfying if you enjoy the process of doing so.
